If you’re a fan of sports betting, football, or both, if you were to place a bet on who you expect to win the 2019/2020 Premier League season, the smart money would be on Liverpool. The EFL has seen some of the world’s greatest football teams since its inception, yet many believe that the football that Liverpool have been playing over the last several months is up there with the best football ever played in the Premiership. As bold a claim as it is, it’s hard to deny. Liverpool look like dead certs for winning the league this year, and here’s a look at why.
They’re out for redemption
It has been just under three decades since Liverpool last won the Premier League. They last won during the 1989/1990 season, whilst being managed by Kenny Dalglish. Liverpool have won 18 league titles, as well as numerous FA cups, Champion’s League Titles, Community Shields, and much more besides. Despite consistently being considered one of the big 5 teams, they never really came close to threatening for the title until recently. We all remember the now infamous Steven Gerrard line talking about the importance of not slipping, and we all know what happened next. Last year, though, Liverpool came painfully close to winning the title for the first time in 29 years, yet they narrowly missed out to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side. They won the Champion’s League, but it was the Premiership title they wanted. This year, they’re hungrier than ever to redeem themselves and bring the title home.
Say what you want about football being played on the pitch, but you can’t deny the fact that a great manager makes all the difference when running a squad. Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson were simply phenomenal and were one of the best teams in the history of the beautiful game. As soon as Sir Alex retired, Man Utd became painfully average. Liverpool have a tactical genius in Jurgen Klopp, who is adored by the fans, and who clearly adores his team and is adored by his players. The Liverpool dressing room has never been stronger, and this makes a huge difference.
When Liverpool last won the league, Mo Salah was two years away from being born. Mo has been a key figure on the pitch for Liverpool, banging in goals for fun. He is still in fine form and he will surely score many more goals before the season is done.
This season, Liverpool are unbeaten. They have one of the strongest defences, not just in the league, but in the world. The back four, along with their keeper, have helped maintain this amazing record, and in all honesty, we’d be surprised if it broken at all this season.
Nobody can compete this season
When it comes to quality on the football pitch, Liverpool are head and shoulders amongst their opposition. Liverpool are playing their best football in decades, possibly ever. The title is theirs to lose. Man City aren’t looking as strong as last season, Leicester, despite starting strong, have dropped points, yet Liverpool continue to pick points up and open up an even bigger gap at the top.
